kword/kspread *very* spread out horizontally

I open up KWord and KSpread, and the layout of both is very messed up. The document or spreadsheet is stretched way out, so that you have to scroll multiple screen-widths to see elements that should be beside each other on the page. It's like my horizontal ruler is stretched so far out it's useless.

Any thoughts on how to fix this? Are there any places I can check for weird settings?

OK, I found the answer to this in an email from Thomas Zander on the mailing list.

I don't understand it all, but basically the x-DPI settings are wrong. A quick work-around is to open the apps like this: kword —dpi 100,100

The real solution is to fix the xorg configuration, I guess. This thread has someinformation:

I'm sorry to be so long replying. There is a later post by Thomas Zander in the same thread.

I followed the advice in the Pclinuxos thread, even though I was having no problem and I have found that in some situations the fonts render much better. I used 96 rather than 100. The sky did not fall down when I inserted the code into xorg.conf.
