introduction
We've reached an interesting point in the development of office software, particularly for users of operating systems derived from Unix - the Linux and Bsd distros. The most prominent provider has been the organisation associated with openoffice.org, whose principal sponsor, indeed founder, is Sun Microsystems Inc.
An attempt to start a discussion amongst users of office software has been floated as a proposal for a wiki. It would probably be better to have the discussion here.
It would do no harm for users of KOffice to talk about what they'd like to see, to put forward their ideas for the way in which office software should be designed and how they'd like to use it. The discussion could include statements of what people like and dislike about other office software.
One possible source for ideas is oooforum.org, a private forum for users of "OO". There is a current thread OOo 3.0 Wishlist. It currently contains 18 pages, so you may wish to start at the end and work your way back. Such a thread probably serves no useful purpose other than creating the illusion that users have some input into the "development" taking place.
It would be interesting to compare the respective approaches of users and developers. You could have a look at a thread on the KOffice mailing list for some perspectives from KOffice developers. The developers' wiki may provide some inspiration.
There is a category on the forum on this site for discussion. Meanwhile, a cohesive vision could be put together in these pages.
